No.20 Changdi Road: a six-storey red-brick tower, first built in 1929 with money raised by local merchants and rebuilt several times since — the present form dates to 1987. For decades it was the city’s timekeeper, striking the hours over the harbour. It stands across the road from the Qilou Old Street, so it costs you nothing to look.
