I. M. Pei's 1990 tower, its four triangular shafts rising in steps and braced by visible diagonals — an engineering first, and deliberately drawn from the imagery of bamboo. The geometry changes at every angle; the classic view is from the Kowloon side at dusk, when the intersection of diagonals catches light.
